“I wash clothes to get money for our daily meal”, these are the words of 48year old Abena Asantewaa who lives in a wooden structure in Klagon, a suburb of Tema in Ghana.
When crimecheckghana spoke to Asantewaa, she said she and her brother used to take care of the family but he has been imprisoned, leaving her alone without a husband to take care of her mother, her brother’s son and her two children. These responsibilities she says are unbearable for her. “My brother was working with a taxi given to him by his master and was robbed of the taxi and arrested as a suspect. He was imprisoned after being arraigned before court. Since he was the one supporting me to take care of the family, his absence has caused me to go through a lot of financial difficulties”. She said.
THE WOODEN STRUCTURE ASANTEWAA LIVES IN
According to her, she initially lived in an uncompleted building but was ejected by the owner of the house but luck smiled at her as a good samaritan offered to give her a wooden structure close to a public toilet to stay in temporarily.
She disclosed that she has five children but three of them were staying with other families. “I live in this wooden structure with my mother, my brother’s child and my two children. I had to give out my three other children to other families so they can at least help me take care of them”.

Asantewaa said she washes clothes for people so that he can get money to feed his family but she is hoping to get a capital for trading.
In an interview with the mother of Asantewaa, she said it saddens her that his son is in prison which has caused them to go through hardship and difficulties in life.
Asantewaa is pleading with the public to come to her aid by providing her with capital for a business that will help her sustain her family financially.
