Crime Check Foundation, CCF has donated assorted food items running into Thousands of Ghana Cedis to Muslim inmates at the Awutu Camp Prison to ease their difficulty of undertaking fasting during the Ramadan.
The items which were donated through one of CCF’s US based group donors, Amana Foundation include 22 bags of rice, 4 gallons of cooking oil, 1 box of tin tomatoes and two bags of sugar.
Presenting the items, the Executive Director of CCF, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng said the limited freedom of the inmates coupled with the meager amount of food served at the prisons makes it difficult for the Muslim inmates to effectively undertake the Fast during the Holy month of Ramadan. “You can imagine the stress you go through when fasting though your freedom is not curtailed. How much more our brothers and sisters in the prisons who have limited freedom but are undertaking the fast? That is why annually CCF and its donors support the Prisons with food items to help the Muslim inmates fast without difficulty.” He said.
Mr. Kwarteng who doubles as the Ambassador Extraordinaire of Prisons seized the opportunity to urge other individuals and organizations to support the Prison Service with protective items to complement the efforts of the Service of stemming the spread of Covid-19 to the Prisons. “We are all aware of the COVID-19 pandemic so I appeal to benevolent individuals and organizations to provide the Awutu Camp Prisons with sanitizers, veronica buckets, drugs and other items that could help them fight the disease.” He said.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Muslim inmates, The Officer-In-Charge at the Awutu Camp Prison, DOP William Anaman thanked CCF and the Amana Foundation for demonstrating love to the inmates through their relieving donation. “On behalf of the Prisons Service I thank CCF and the Amana Foundation for supporting the Muslim inmates to embark on the fast without struggles.” He said.
DDP Anaman, highlighted some measures the Prison has put in place to fight the COVID-19 but did not hesitate to appeal to concerned individuals and organizations to complement the efforts of Government in supporting the Prisons Service achieve its mandate. “If you look around the whole compound of the Prison yard, we have been able to put up some washing bays to encourage hand washing in order to ensure hygiene is maintained but the sustainability of the project depends on the financial capability of the Prison. We plead that organizations and individuals should complement the efforts of government in helping the Prisons contain the spread of the Virus.” He said.
CCF has been pivotal in supporting the efforts of the Prisons Service’s agenda of reformation and rehabilitation.
