Heavily pregnant Gifty Nketia narrates her harrowing sex work ordeal. She says she wants to sell her unborn child because of financial difficulties.
The young woman who hails from Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana says she has been working as a prostitute to take care of her four children after the demise of her husband. “My husband was a galamseyer at Nkawkaw where we were living with our children but he died in the course of his work, leaving me with the four children. So I came to Accra to work as a prostitute to cater for my children.”
According to Gifty, She was introduced into prostitution by a friend and has been the doing the business for a year, but unfortunately got pregnant. She goes on to say that she wants to sell the child since she doesn’t know the father of the child and is also facing financial difficulties. “I really suffer in taking care of the needs of my children and I do not want to add up. I cannot oneday tell the child who the father is so I just want to sell it and have my freedom. She told crimecheckghana.
Heavily pregnant Gifty says she stays in a wooden structure in Accra and sleeps on the floor because all the money she gains from the prostitution business goes to his children at Nkawkaw.
She further disclosed that it saddens her heart she is an orphan and has no helper in life. “I know if my parents were alive, I would not have gone through hardships in life. They passed away when I was at a tender age”.
