Mother of six, Ama Atta Aidoo, who lives in Ablekuma in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, has told crimecheckghana that she has to beg on the streets before she can feed her children and her bedridden husband.
According to her, all was well until her husband fell ill and was diagnosed of stroke, so he could no longer work to cater for the family. “We initially had three children and I got pregnant again. Before my husband’s illness, life was okay for us but after three months of bringing forth triplets, he fell ill and became bedridden”. She said.
The seemingly dejected woman said she borrowed fifty Ghana cedis from her neighbor to start a yam business but she could not do it for long because complications she suffered during delivery had a toll on her health.
“I went through caesarean section when giving birth to the triplets so I was advised by the doctor not to involve myself in vigorous activities. There is no one to help me cater for the triplets too”. She told crimecheckghana.
Madam Atta Aidoo said life has become very difficult for the family and all they do is to go to the streets and beg for money for a living. “After my husband became bedridden, our daily meal has even become a problem. Because of financial difficulties, I could not take my husband to the hospital for proper treatment so his family members have taken him to the village”. She said.
Her rent according to her, was due last year and so she had to plead with the landlord to give her more time to pay. Her children she says, have dropped out of school. Her landlord, she claims, is also likely to eject them at any time but she has no one to turn to for help.
Ama Atta Aidoo has therefore pleaded with Ghanaians to come to her aid so that she can properly take care of her children.
