15-year-old Rita Esarba has had her breast severed and stitched to save her life after she contracted breast cancer.
The Primary five pupil said she underwent an initial surgery after she was diagnosed with the cancer. She said during the period she was recovering from the wounds of the surgery, she got pregnant which worsened her condition due to complications.
Esarba said her boyfriend who impregnated her escaped with the help of his father when her parents went to his house to confront him. This she said has made her struggling parents abandon her in pains.
“My boyfriend became hostile after he had slept with me so I couldn’t tell him that I was pregnant. His relatives also do not care about us and it has been difficult to get him arrested. I go through unbearable pain.” She told crimecheckghana.
Remorseful Rita advised her colleagues and peers to rather focus on their education than to indulge in vices. “I would want to urge my friends to use my situation to learn a lesson. They should focus on their education and strive hard to finish school because engaging in amorous relationships could thwart their bright future.” She advised.
Rita’s grandmother, Esi Esarba who couldn’t stand her pains had to find means to get her immediate medical attention. The poor farmer said she had spent her savings on her granddaughter’s initial surgery making her struggle to afford that which is pending.
“I took her to the doctor who undertook the first surgery and he asked me to come to the hospital. He told me Rita would have to undergo another surgery but he is yet to tell me the cost and though I don’t know yet, I don’t think I can afford it. The rainfall pattern has been bad so our farm produce did not yield well.” She said.
Crime Check Foundation, CCF is appealing to the public to come to the aid of the poor woman, Esi Esarba to get medical attention for her almost dying granddaughter to save her life.
CCF’s Health Check Series is used to seek support for poor individuals to access medical care.
