A Circuit Court in Adentan has sentenced a 24-year-old plumber, Felix Agbenyegah to five years imprisonment for unlawful entry and stealing.
Agbenyegah is said to have broken into the room of the complainant, Justice Ababio, and made away with his 55-inch Panasonic television set, which is valued at Three Thousand Ghana cedis.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo said Ababio is an auto mechanic who resides at Madina and the accused also lives in the same area.
Chief Inspector Lanyo narrated that in the early hours of Sunday, December 19, 2021, the complainant left home for church service at the Madina Township. He said at about 10:30 am, the complainant received a call from a neighbour that his room had been burgled and that he had spotted the accused with a TV set climbing his fenced wall into the next house.
Mr. Lanyo further explained that the accused could not escape as a security guard who shared the fenced wall with the complainant nabbed him.
Agbenyegah was escorted to the police station at Madina with the TV set where he admitted the offence while writing his caution statement.
Agbenyegah pleaded guilty when he appeared before the court and was charged with unlawful entry and stealing.
The court presided over by Sedinam Awo Balakoh, convicted the accused on his own plea and sentenced him accordingly.
CCF’s crime prevention advocacy
Crime Check Foundation (CCF) has been cautioning the general public against acts that could land them into trouble.
CCF has introduced programmes including the latest ‘Stay Away From Trouble’ as part of its crime prevention advocacy project. The Foundation screens one-on-one interviews with prison inmates bringing to bare acts that landed them into prison and the difficulties they face in custody.
It has paid the fines of many petty offenders for their release.
