Former HIV/AIDS ambassador, Joyce Dzidzor Mensah has explained the need for the public to offer physical support and not only advice to mentally ill persons.
Madam Mensah was explaining to crimecheckghana.org why she posts her nudes on social media, which she says is triggered by her mental syndrome.
“Advice alone is not enough. Such people need support to undergo treatment. You must draw closer to them,” she said.
According to the mental health advocate, she suffered occasional depression, and that led her to her weird behavior on social media including posting her nudes.
“I always regret posting my nudes after I gain consciousness,” she indicated.
She apologized to the general public for her misdemeanor and hoped to be a better person if she got the needed support.
Due to her unstable mental syndrome and its effect, Ms Mensah finds it imperative to help others going through the same ordeal.
The Germany-based philanthropist has been funding the recovery treatment of a gentleman named Emmanuel Opoku who suffers from the condition.
“I met Emmanuel in my village roaming about naked. I was sorry for him. I felt what he was going through so I enquired more about him and decided to help him. He is gradually recovering and I pay for his treatment from my own pockets,” she said.
The mental health advocate was excited when the Executive Director of Crime Check Foundation, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng encouraged her desire to establish her Foundation to support persons suffering from the disorder when he pledged his support for her.
According to Ms Mensah, the desire to establish an NGO stems from her willingness to help persons with mental illness to gain their sanity.
“The NGO is not for me to make money. It is because I am passionate about mental health,” she indicated.
Joyce Dzidzor, based in Germany has been battling chronic depression, which according to her makes her do the unthinkable including regrettably posting her nudes on social media.
