Ofoase Ayirebi Police have arrested the mother of the 15-year-old girl who was flogged and molested by two young men on the orders of her stepfather.
The boys who stripped the girl half-naked and flogged her while one tried to insert his finger into her vagina.
The police are hot on the heels of the perpetrators including the stepfather who are currently on the run.
But on Thursday, June 9, the Ofoase Ayirebi Police Commander, Superintendent George Bawa, confirmed the arrest of the mother of the girl to aid investigations.
He indicated that Oda DOVVSU has taken over the case.
He added that the girl’s mother is expected to assist with further investigations as the police continue to search for the perpetrators.
She is said to have left her home on Friday, May 27, 2022. Amid worrying from her parents, she did not return home to sleep but was only spotted the next morning.
Despite crying for help, the man said to be her step-father started undressing her as the beating and sexual harassment continued.
The victim later narrated: “I went to sleep at my friend’s house. I was brushing my teeth when the boys poured water on me and started beating me on the orders of my father because I didn’t sleep at home. One said if I have had sex with her, they wouldn’t have beaten me. The other inserted pepper in my private part. I promised to report them to the police, but my stepfather was not bothered.”
