A woman who gave birth to a set of twins at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has been left paralyzed after delivery.
Precious Agyekum underwent a Caesarian Section on the recommendation of doctors at the hospital due to pregnancy complications.
Unfortunately, though she survived the process, she is unable to move any part of her body except her eyeballs.
According to a Crime Check Foundation’s (CCF) reporter on her visit to the woman at Korle-Bu, she was being fed through a tube, as she lay helpless in her hospital bed.
“Her body has been connected with tubes serving her with substances that will sustain her,” the reporter observed.
Pictures show a deformation of the woman with her hanging tongue falling out of her protruded mouth.
Her husband, Douglas Agyekum tells crimecheckghana.org, that he has sold his house to get proper care for his wife to get back on her feet, but to no avail
“I have sold my three-bedroom house at Kasoa to get her on her feet. Even after that I still owe bills at the hospital,” he said.
Narrating events leading to his wife’s condition, the worried husband said his wife walked by herself for anti-natal.
After some medical examinations at the hospital, doctors noticed she had some complications and admitted her the same day.
Fast forward, normal delivery, according to the doctors was going to put her life at risk hence, the need for her to undergo a Caesarian Section.
Douglas said his wife was sent to the emergency ward but the doctors came out with questionable facial expressions.
Though she delivered safely, she has been rendered immobile.
The troubled husband said his wife has been stuck at the hospital for six months without attention from doctors.
He said the doctors told him they could not do anything about her condition and ‘therefore I have to come for her and take care of her at home’.
Douglas is appealing for support to clear his wife’s debt at the hospital and also seek advanced avenues that would get her back on her feet.
