A kidney failure patient, 31-year-old Belinda Boakye is begging for support to undergo dialysis treatment. The poor lady says she has been struggling to raise three hundred Ghana cedis daily to undergo the treatment after her family left her to her fate.
Speaking to crimecheckghana.org, she indicated that her husband also abandoned her when she started showing signs of the disease.
Ms. Boakye said she realized her condition through intermittent but severe headaches.
“The headache started when I was pregnant so I thought it was just a sign of pregnancy. However, after a year I started having another severe headache. I went to a hospital and doctors diagnosed me with kidney failure. My body parts began to swell heavily.” She said.
The single mother said she could only manage the disease with the little support her family gave her.
“My family members only rushed me to the hospital anytime I collapsed due to the effects of the disease. There is not enough money for my relatives to give me proper medical care.” She indicated.
Ms. Boakye said she was referred to the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital where doctors recommended that she undergoes the dialysis treatment but she has been unable to afford the cost involved.
“I am swollen and my urine smells because I do not undergo dialysis to help me remove the waste in my body. At least every week I have to spend One Thousand Ghana cedis on treatment and I cannot afford it.”
Belinda said she has to eat foods that she claims worsens her condition but she has to make do with it due to financial difficulties. She appealed to the general public to come to her aid or she risks losing her life.
CCF’s support
Crime Check Foundation (CCF) gave her an amount of Eight Hundred Ghana cedis through one of the Foundation’s group donors, ‘Let’s Help Whiles We Can’ to enable her undergo two phases of the dialysis treatment.
