40-year-old Margaret Bujei got paralyzed after a doctor gave her an injection meant to cure her of high fever went wrong.
The injection she said, has caused her fingers and toes to wither making her unable to walk. She now has to drag her buttocks on the ground.
Miss Bujei said she felt numbness in her hands and legs a day after she was given the injection at the hospital. She said a week later her fingers and toes started wearing-off.
Bujei said one of her older sisters who lives abroad promising to get her medical attention, abandoned her in the village and travelled.
The industrious lady who worked in Kumasi, said, she now has to depend on one of her struggling sisters in the village to be able to cater for herself.
“After the injection, I couldn’t go back to the hospital because my legs were weak and I did not have anybody to help me. My sister who is well-to-do took me to different hospitals in Kumasi but I did not get cure. She then brought me to the village and since then I have been stuck here” She told crimecheckghana.
Bujei’s sister who takes care of her in the village, Comfort Oddae said, it has been difficult in taking care of her because of financial difficulties. She added that none of the other siblings have showed concerned making the responsibilities unbearable for her.
“After she was abandoned here, other relatives have never contributed to support her or even called to ask about her condition. We struggle to feed ourselves. My children have to hawk foodstuffs to enable us get money to buy food.” She said.
