Vincentia Atsu, a second hand clothing vendor who resides at Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region is in ruins as her efforts to raise Thirty Thousand Ghana Cedis for her twin son, Atsu Meshach to undergo surgery have become fruitless.
Narrating his ordeal, Meshach said his football opponents beat him and hit his head against a wall after a football match. “Our opponents were beating one of my team mates after a match because we won. When I decided to intervene, they pounced on me and hit my head against a wall which has resulted in my current spinal problem”. He told crimecheckghana.
The distressed mother of Meshach told crimecheckghana that when she took her son to the hospital, she was told he will need to undergo two surgeries to get his spinal cord corrected but she could not afford the amount of money that was involved , so she had to take her child back home. “At the hospital I was told the surgery will cost thirty thousand Ghana cedis but before that I was asked to pay Two Thousand Ghana Cedis for him to be admitted at the ward before the surgery is carried out. I was unable to pay so I brought him back home”. She said amid sobs.
Vincentia said she informed her husband about the situation at hand but he refused to contribute in paying the bills. “I told my husband (father of the twins) about what has happened but he decided against supporting the children.
The twin brother of Meshach also recounted how his father called to tell him he is not their father, so they should not bother him with their well-being. “My father called me one day and told me he is not our father so he is not responsible for our upkeep”.
The poor woman said she was left with no option than to take her son to a spiritual healing center to get solution for him. “I cannot watch my son die so I had to take him to a spiritual healing center for help”. She told crimecheckghana.
The miserable looking mother said her trade has been negatively affected because she has to be with Meshach to clean him always. “I abandoned my trade because I have to be with him often to change his diapers and clean him up because he cannot do anything for himself”. She said.
Vincentia said because of financial difficulties, she had to take a loan to invest in her business and also cater for the children. She said she is always sad when she remembers how the father of her children has abandoned them and is denying responsibility.
The Foundation made a Five Hundred Ghana Cedis donation from Paradise Prayer Centre to Vincentia as they await the benevolence of donors to raise the Thirty Thousand Ghana Cedis (the equivalent of five thousand three hundred and forty eight US Dollars) for the surgery.
Vincentia thanked Paradise Prayer Center for supporting her. “God bless Paradise Prayer Center for coming to our aid. We are very much grateful for this support”.
Crime Check Foundation is appealing to the general public to come on board to support Meshach financially to undergo the surgeries to allow him get back on his feet.
Crime Check Foundation’s Health Check Series aims at supporting individuals who need medical assistance but are financially handicapped. The project, with the support of donors has saved the lives of many poor and underprivileged Ghanaians who cannot afford the cost of medical care.
