58 year old widow, Cecilia Brobbey lost her two year old baby due to the harsh weather conditions she was exposed to for sleeping in classrooms and on verandas because she could not afford to rent a room.
Narrating her affliction to crimecheckghana, she said since her husband died five years ago, the man’s family has been on her nerves to the extent that they took her children away from her. Madam Brobbey said her situation worsened when they drove her out of the house and with her two year old baby, she had to find shelter in a classroom. She said during her stay there the child died because he was exposed to excessive cold. “Since my husband died I have not had peace of mind just because I left the Roman Catholic Church which the family worshipped with to another denomination. My husband’s family took away my elderly children and when I went to live in the classroom I was exposed to rain so my baby couldn’t survive.” She narrated.

She said she took up the hawking of women scarf to enable her fend for herself but life continues to hit her hard as a she makes meager sales from the hawking which she does without business capital. “When I take One Hundred Ghana Cedis of the scarf on credit, my profit is Ten Ghana Cedis. The market is bad so I have to toil to be able to make good sales. I have hawked the whole day and I have sold only Seventeen Ghana Cedis from which my profit is One Ghana Cedi Seventy pesewas.” She said.
Crime Check Foundation, CCF caught-up with her as she was taking a rest after a fruitless afternoon hawking. CCF gifted her Five Hundred Ghana Cedis through one of its US based group donors, Executive Ladies.
