The Anloga District Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old female restaurant worker, Godsway Ablorde for allegedly murdering her colleague, Ami Ablorde.
Godsway is said to have attempted suicide moments after she allegedly set the deceased ablaze leading to her death but was arrested with the help of community members.
A report from the Volta Regional Police Command indicated that preliminary investigations revealed that both suspect and deceased were workers at the restaurant but the management relieved Godsway of her duties.
It said Godsway had the suspicion that her rejection from the restaurant was arranged by Ami and warned management to also sack her.
According to the report, on January 11, 2022, at about 2000 hours, Godsway, armed with a gallon of petrol mixed with diesel, and a box of matches, allegedly went to the restaurant and poured the mixture on Ami and lighted the match.
Ami, who was then alone at the facility, struggled for her life until some good Samaritans rushed her to the Keta Government Hospital for medical attention, but she died the next morning at about 0700 hours.
The suspect was arraigned before the Anloga Magistrate Court on Thursday and subsequently remanded to reappear on February 24, 2022, as investigations continue.
CCF’s crime prevention advocacy
Crime Check Foundation (CCF) has introduced programmes including the latest ‘Stay Away From Trouble’ as part of its crime prevention advocacy project.
Through these programmes it has been cautioning the general public against acts that could land them in trouble in a bid to curb crime.
The Foundation screens one-on-one interviews with prison inmates bringing to bear acts that landed them into prison and the difficulties they face in custody.
It has also paid the fines of many petty offenders for their release.
