“I want to commit suicide”, these are the words of Janet Ledi, a 17-year-old orphan as all hopes of going to senior high school were lost.
In an interview with crimecheckghana.org, Miss Ledi said both parents died at a young age while in the Volta Region of Ghana. “My mother died when I was twelve and two years later my father also died”. She said.
The young lady said she met a good samaritan, Christiana who had come to the village for a funeral and heard of her situation and the woman offered to take care of her and her formal education since government.
According to her, Christiana brought her to Accra and enrolled her in a government school till she wrote BECE after she had successfully completed primary and junior high school with good grades.
The distraught young lady said after gaining admission to the Nkawkaw Senior High School, there was no one to assist her with the other necessities that would make life bearable for her in school since her foster mother, Christiana who used to sell watermelons is not in the position to support her. “I thought life had ended for me because I could not bear the sight of seeing my schoolmates go to senior high school while I stayed home so I decided to commit suicide”. Janet tells crimecheckghana.org
However, Crime Check Foundation through its donors has decided to provide for her needs for her three years stay in Senior High School.
The Foundation has provided her with her school needs such as a trunk, chop box, student mattress, stationeries, toiletries, provisions, and some amount of money amongst others for her upkeep.
In addition, the Foundation gave two hundred Ghana cedis to her foster mother, Christiana to start a business.
An elated Janet had this to say, “God richly bless every individual who supported this good course”.
The CCF Educational Support Scheme is aimed at supporting brilliant but needy students who find it difficult to pay their school fees because of financial challenges.
