Crime Check Foundation (CCF) has supported four (4) traders at the Kasoa market.
The traders, 42-year-old Yaaya, 25-year-old Sophia Pedza, Adom and a 42-year-old mother of seven who did not disclose her name received Three Hundred Ghana cedis each to enable them to boost their businesses.
Taro leaves and turkey berries vendor, Yaaya told our reporter that her capital is Fifty Ghana cedis from which she must fend for her four children whose responsibilities she has to shoulder alone after the death of her husband.
The widow said due to the difficulties, only two of the children are in school.
“I had to take a loan to be able to rent a room. I am only able to buy ‘gari’ after I have closed from the market for the children to eat. Life has been difficult but I have to cope with it,” she said.
For Adom, the cassava seller, at the time Crime Check TV got to the market, she was been harassed by one of her customers she owed Ten Ghana cedis.
“I buy the bag of cassava on credit to sell and then pay the owner later. The profit I make from the trade is peanut. I am unable to fend for my children. Even one of them who is sick and should be at the hospital is home because there is no money to get him proper medical care,” she said as she sobbed.
According to Sophia though she sells tea, she had to add sachet water to the business to be able to cover her expenses and sales for a day.
“My capital is Hundred Ghana cedis and I sometimes get a profit of Twenty-Five Ghana cedis from the tea and at least Sixteen Ghana cedis from the water business,” she explained.
Their stories are not different from the mother of seven whose husband has refused to cater for her and the children.
They thanked CCF and the donors for supporting them.
The Executive Director of CCF, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, entreated the general public to help others in need with the little they can offer. “You could see the joy with which these women received the money. This should tell you that it does not matter how much you have to help the needy,” he advised.
