Christmas came early for inmates at the Awutu Camp Prison as a New Zealand based philanthropist, Mr. Alfred Koudayah donates various food items through Crime Check Foundation CCF.
The items which is worth two thousand, five hundred Ghana cedis includes ten bags of rice, five gallons of cooking oil and four boxes of tomato paste.
In a telephone conversation with Mr. Koudayah, he stated how passionate he is about prisoners and therefore wants to gift them these items to celebrate Christmas.
Presenting the items, the Executive Director of CCF, Mr. Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng commended the authorities at Awutu Camp Prison for taking inmates through vocational and technical training which will help inmates to be self-employed when they are done serving their sentence.
Receiving the items, the Officer in Charge of the facility, DDP William Anaman expressed appreciation to CCF and Alfred Koudayah for the kind gesture. “On behalf of the officers and inmates, I will like to say a very big thank you to God and Mr. Koudayah for these items. I pray whatever he has lost because of us, would be replenished in Jesus name”.
Mr. Kwarteng who doubles as the Ambassador Extraordinaire of Ghana Prisons appealed to the public to come to the aid of prison officers and inmates as Christmas approaches. “Most often we see prisoners as sinners but that should not be so. It is therefore our responsibility to show love and care to them”. He also said the Prison Service alone cannot cater for the needs of the prisoners hence the need for public support.
The decision by Crime Check Foundation to champion efforts at the reformation and rehabilitation of prisoners has become necessary because of the deplorable conditions in Ghana’s forty six prisons, and the alleged abuses of the rights of prisoners.
