Broadcast Journalist and Executive Director of Crime Check Foundation, CCF Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng has been awarded the Best Advocacy Journalist of the Year at the Ghana Leadership Awards, 2019 which happened at the Best Western Premiere Hotel in Accra.
Mr. Kwarteng received the award in recognition of his numerous documentaries which exposes and sensitizes the public to the various infractions of the law and the deplorable state of Ghana’s prison. In a citation accompanying the award, the Ambassador Extraordinaire of Ghana Prisons, Mr. Kwarteng was praised for his commitment to exposing human rights violations of prisoners.
The award seeks to celebrate and recognize the most outstanding and exemplary leadership that positively impacts the development of Ghana and Africa.
The annual event showcases the highest level of leaders in business, government, academia, philanthropy, and media, among others.
Mr. Kwarteng, is the Host and Producer of the first-ever TV Series in Ghana “Time with the Prisoner”, an interview program with prisoners.
As a Prisons Ambassador Extraordinaire, Mr. Kwarteng has used the position conferred on him by the Ghana Prison Service to give hope to a number of prisoners and exconvicts in some cases helped to liberate them from the shackles of the law through his Petty Offenders and Ex-convicts Re-Integration Projects.
The broadcast journalist highlights the deplorable conditions in Ghana’s prisons and seeks public support to improve infrastructure and welfare of prisoners.
In his resolve to help educate the public on Ghana’s laws and statues, Mr. Kwarteng broadcasts his flagship programme, ‘Time with the Prisoner’ on Ghana Television, GTV and on UTV, a private television station watched by millions of viewers in Ghana.
Mr. Kwarteng, a Chevening Scholar, having won the award in 2016 to study for a Masters in International Journalism at Brunel University, London, has been with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation for 12yrs and is currently a Chief Editor. He is also a member of the Association of European Journalists, AEJ.
He has done extensive research on child Labor in Ghana, and has several documentaries and feature articles on Good Practices and Lessons Learnt on ECOWAS I&II to enhance elimination of child labor in Ghana.
He is acknowledged worldwide and has received several International awards.
He has interviewed many British Politicians including then former UK secretary of state for international Development, Justice Greening, Former UN Metropolitan commissioner of police, Logan Howe, former Mayor of Merton, Agartha Akyigyina, the Spiritual Head, Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hadzrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, Mayor of Hillingdom, John Henseley and many more.
He holds a BA in English from University of Cape Coast, an M.A in English from the University of Ghana, and an M.A in International Journalism from Brunel University, London.
