Ernest Arkoh, a young and energetic man used to earn a good income from his job as a servicer of fire extinguishers but unfortunately lost his job and later suffered financial difficulties after organizing a luxurious wedding.
He told crimecheckghana.org that out of frustration, he decided to steal someone’s car, sell it, and use the proceeds to cater for his 3-month famished pregnant wife.
“All was well until my boss at work started denying me some work opportunities that helped me earn extra income. I had to depend on the little amount of money I had in my account to cater for my family. Eventually, there was no income at all so I had to quit the job to look for another but I had no better one and this landed us in abject poverty.” The young man told crimecheckghana.org.
According to him, his wife, Sandra Baidoo suffered lots of complications during pregnancy which demanded huge amounts of money for her medication. Though his wife never complained, Ernest said he could not stand the pain and emotional difficulties her lovely wife was going through.
“My wife was a seamstress but due to complications of her pregnancy, she had to quit work and stay home. There was no money to pay for her medication and food. I couldn’t stand my wife suffering so out of frustration, I decided to steal a car, sell it, and use its proceeds to cater for her.” He told crimecheckghana.org
He added that in the process of stealing, he was caught and brutally beaten. He said he was on the verge of being burnt but was saved by a police patrol team, arraigned before court, and later sentenced to 2years in prison.
When crimecheckghana.org spoke to his wife, Sandra Baidoo, she disclosed how difficult life has been after the imprisonment of her husband. She was however optimistic he would come out of prison in God’s time.
Crime Check Foundation through its donors donated wax prints, oats, sugar, and sardines to Mrs. Baidoo. She also benefitted from a five hundred Ghana cedis donation from Black Stars and Newcastle midfielder, Christian Atsu.
