Women have been advised not to stop breastfeeding for fear of their breasts sagging.
A midwife with the Tema General Hospital, Dorothy Denkyi who gave the advice said breastfeeding is not the cause of a sagged breast.
Madam Denkyi made the statement during a breast cancer education and screening exercises for officers of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in Accra.
The exercises were organized by Meena Breast Cancer Foundation (MBCF) as part of their year-round fight against breast cancer.
According to Midwife Dorothy Denkyi, the cause of breast sagging is attributed to the lifestyle of women.
She said some of the causes are wrong sleeping positions and the kind of food they eat.
“If you usually sleep on your breast it will sag so don’t blame it on breastfeeding. If you don’t eat the right food too it will sag. Eat more vegetables,” she suggested.
Mrs. Denkyi reiterated her call for women to wear bras that will completely hold their breasts in.
“Wearing tighter bras will put your breast at risk of cancer. Know your breast size and buy bras accordingly,” she intimated.
NACOC is the latest corporate organization it has visited.
During its maiden press conference to address some challenges facing breast cancer patients, MBCF advocated government to make breast cancer treatments free.
It also urged government to outline proper policies to give directions to the treatment of the disease.
The Foundation was established a year ago on the vision of Amina Oppong Kwarteng, the late spouse of the Executive Director of MBCF, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng.
It is currently constructing the first-ever breast cancer centre in the country at Potsin, a town in the Central Region.
