To avenge the death of one of their colleagues, some military officers have reportedly brutalized residents of Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region.
Their deceased colleague, a 22-year-old soldier attached to the Ghana Armed Forces band in the Bono Region was allegedly killed in the area.
According to reports, unknown attackers stabbed the young soldier several times in the early hours of Saturday, March 4.
Following news of his death, some colleague soldiers stormed Ashaiman in the early hours of Tuesday, March 7, causing residents to flee the scene.
They besieged the area with armoured vehicles and helicopters circling over the town.
The officers subjected some residents to severe flogging and forced others to roll on the ground in the muddy puddles of the early morning rains.
Eyewitness accounts say the area has become a ghost town as the terrified residents have put all activities on hold.
Meanwhile, some residents who have taken cover in their homes have taken to social media to share pictures and videos of the happenings.
Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, Ernest Norgbey, has condemned the action of the military men.
“They can be peeved because one of their own is gone, but brutalizing people is not the solution to this problem,” he said.
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) is yet to comment on the issue.
