Police have rescued a baby who was trapped in a car at Santasi in the Ashanti Region.
The baby was trapped in a red Toyota Corolla vehicle snatched by gunmen from its mother at Santasi.
According to reports, the Ashanti Regional Police Command received information about two men wielding guns and had snatched the vehicle from its owner at Good Hope Chapel at Santasi and swiftly informed all mobile patrol teams in the Metropolis to watch out for the car.
According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ashanti Regional Police, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Godwin Ahianyo, the police retrieved the vehicle at Dakwa-Dwom (market place), after the gunmen abandoned the car following a hot chase, which they could not withstand and fled to the bush.
“The suspects abandoned the car at Dakwa-Dwom and run away after sensing the danger of police approach. We found the baby safe in the car and had since reunited with the mother”, ASP Ahianyo told the press on Sunday, after retrieving the car.
He said the vehicle has been moved to the Regional Police Headquarters, to aid police in their investigation whiles the baby has been reunited with the mother.
ASP Ahianyo indicated that the patrol teams are still pursuing the suspects and all other operational units have been put on high alert.
He called on citizens to support the police with information on the suspects after assuring the general public that the service will continue to keep the Metropolis and the whole region safe.
“The Command would also like to appeal to the general public to give credible information that will lead to the arrest of the suspected criminals,” he said.
