A two-year-old baby is suffering from a bizarre defect that causes his skin to peel off.
The baby, according to his father, John Akorebere, was born with the condition, “The doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital told me the condition is called Ichthyosis. It causes the skin to dry, crack, and peel off,” John said.
Ichthyosis is a group of skin disorders that lead to dry, itchy skin that appears scaly, rough, and red.
The condition is managed when the skin is kept moisturized to prevent it from drying.
In a video, Akorebere shared with Crime Check Foundation (CCF), the baby’s skin has cracks and is strangely shedding with wounds on his head.
His eyes seemed to be plugging out of its sockets because of the wearing away of his eyelids.
The condition of the baby is only been managed to sustain his life, as Akorebere and his wife are unable to afford treatment to completely cure the disease.
His mother has had to quit her job to take care of him while Akorebere works as a tricycle rider to buy his medications.
Akorebere is also likely to lose his job as the owner of the tricycle threatens to take it back over his inability to complete the payment of the motor.
He is appealing to the general public to support him in buying medications to sustain the life of his child and also help him complete the payment of the tricycle.
“I am only able to buy Vaseline every four days for him to help his skin from going completely dry. Even that is difficult for me,” John told crimecheckghana.org.
CCF is taking up the responsibility to get support for the little child under its Health Check Series. The Foundation is pleading for help for the baby.
