Edmund Eghan, a 23-year-old man has been smoking since age 10 and lived a coddled life.
The young man graduated from smoking cigarettes to weed while indulging in thievery at home and school to satisfy his lifestyle.
According to him, his mother pampered him and that got him spoilt.
“My mother did anything I asked from her though she only sold noodles. I was pampered so much that it got into my head,” he told crimecheckghana.org.
Eghan’s lifestyle led to his expulsion from Senior High School whiles in his second year.
The young man said he stole his step-father’s mobile phone and sold it at Three Hundred Ghana cedis to placate his babied lifestyle.
“I was in difficulty and that pushed me to steal the Samsung Galaxy phone belonging to my stepdaddy. He did not spare me and got me arrested,” Eghan confessed.
The Ajumako Magistrate Court sentenced Edmund Eghan to serve nine months imprisonment at the Winneba Local Prison after the court found him guilty of stealing.
Crime Check Foundation (CCF) visited Eghan at the prison as a part of the implementation of its Petty Offenders project.
CCF paid his fine of One Thousand Eight Hundred Ghana cedis for his release.
A US-based donor, Agnes Kesewaa supported the Petty Offenders project facilitating the release of Eghan who pledged to turn a new leaf.
The project pays the fines of petty offenders through its fine-paying module.
