6 month old baby, Makafui Akabua is experiencing agonizing pains from a cancerous lump that has developed on his back making his head and legs to swell.
After six months of unsuccessful attempts to raise almost Seven Thousand Ghana Cedis, the restless parents of baby Makafui, residents of Dzodze in the Volta Region, had to run to Crime Check Foundation, CCF for support to enable the toddler undergo surgery lest he loses his life.
According to Makafui’s father, 37 year old Akabua Worlasi, his son was referred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment after midwives discovered the ailment on the child the same period he was delivered.
“Since childbirth Makafui has always been crying because of the pains he goes through. When he was delivered the midwives asked us to immediately take him to Korle-Bu for treatment. After the doctors undertook series of lab tests and scans on him, they said he would have to undergo surgery to remove the lump.” He told crimecheckghana.
The poor farmer said sales from his farm produce is not encouraging as he makes only meager returns after harvest. Worlasi said his wife, Blessing Akabua has also lost her business due to their son’s predicament. He said because of financial difficulties life has been tough for them hence raising the money for the surgery has become a challenge.
“I make One Hundred Ghana Cedis from after harvesting my tomatoes. I share the money with my wife because her business has collapsed. I become restless when Makafui is in pains. I wished he could undergo the surgery to give him relief.” He said.
Crime Check Foundation, CCF through some of its donors gave the couple Six Thousand Eight Hundred Ghana Cedis to pay for their son’s surgery.
Worlasi showed his appreciation for the support. “God bless you for your contribution. May He restore whatever you have lost.” He prayed.
