4yr old, Kobby’s mother, Eva has abandoned the little boy to battle a strange disease which has caused his head and belly to swell. His father’s efforts to raise an amount of Two Thousand Six Hundred and Eighty Ghana Cedis (equivalent of 466.02 USD) to undergo MRI scans preceding surgery has been challenging.
Speaking to crimecheckghana, Kobby’s father, Desmond Mawuena said his son’s condition started with his stomach and eventually affected his head. Narrating Kobby’s affliction, he said Eva’s mother took Kobby to a prayer center at Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region of Ghana where the priest suggested that they kill him because there is no solution to his sickness. “My girlfriend’s mother took Kobby away for six months because we gave birth out of wedlock. Whiles they were away they took him to a priest without my knowledge. So I asked them to bring my child to me. Ever since they brought him, I have not heard anything or seen Eva again”. He recounted.
The devastated young man, who works as a laborer in a construction firm said with the support of his mother, he took Kobby to the hospital. The authorities demanded Two Thousand Six Hundred and Eighty Ghana Cedis to undergo MRI scan to enable them start with the diagnosis before a surgery can be carried out. But he could not afford it. “I was able to take my son to the Mampong Government Hospital where we were referred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. At Korle-Bu, I was asked to pay Eight hundred Ghana Cedis for anesthetics which I did. But I could not pay the Two Thousand Six Hundred and Eighty Ghana Cedis MRI scan. I approached my family members for assistance but none contributed”. He told crimecheckghana.
Desmond said his son usually cries as a result of the agonizing pains he experiences from his swollen head and belly.
Desmond’s restless mother said she is helpless to see his first grandson go through such pains. “I have lost my job because I had to come and see to my grandson’s situation. Now, even food to eat has become a problem for us”. She said sorrowfully.
