A six-year-old girl, Delali Boame takes in food through a tube that connects into her bowels. This was after boiling beans on fire poured on her, damaging her organs.
The troubled mother of the little girl, Matilda Boame said Delali and her one-year-old sister, Abigail have suffered severe burns and are currently on admission at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital waiting to undergo plastic surgery.
According to Delali, she carried Abigail on her back and by the orders of her mother, she put a cup of beans on fire for supper. She said she was in the kitchen and when ‘I was trying to close the door, it hit me and I fell to the ground. My dress hooked the coal pot and the boiling beans poured on me and Abigail.’
She added, “I was crying because the pain was unbearable but there was no help coming. My mother was in the bathhouse.”
Madam Boame said she did not hear the screaming of her daughter but only realized what had happened after she saw hot beans come out of Delight’s dress. “When I came out of the bathhouse I saw my children severely bruised. I took them to three different hospitals which did not have the specialists to attend to them so I was referred to the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital,” she said.
The petty trader said she and her husband are struggling to raise Six Thousand Ghana cedis to enable their children to undergo surgery. “My husband is a carpenter and he barely gets job offers. I also sell provisions on a table in a school so life is not easy for us. I am appealing to the general public to come to the aid of my children,” she pleaded.
