Black Stars and Newcastle midfielder, Christian Atsu has presented a cheque of three thousand Ghana cedis to Awutu Camp prison. The cheque, which was presented on the midfielder’s behalf by the Executive Director of Crime Check Foundation, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, was in response to a request by the Officer-in-Charge of the prison, William Thomas Anaman for the upgrading of the prison pitch to enable inmates engage in sporting activities. Receiving the cheque, Mr. Anaman expressed appreciation to Mr. Atsu for quickly responding to the plea of the inmates.
“Our pitch is the only recreational facility for the inmates, but for a very long time, we have not been able to use it because of its bad nature. The inmates will be more than happy now.” He told crimecheckghana.
The midfielder who is currently pushing for the passage of the Non-Custodial Sentencing bill in Ghana in collaboration with Crime Check Foundation, has so far paid various court fines for the release of fifty three prisoners in Ghana.
