80-year-old Akua Benne has been abandoned by her children for almost a decade. She starves in her lonely mud house in Bonkwaso, a village in the Ashanti Region. Crime Check Foundation, CCF went to her aid through its new series, Village Charity.
Maame Benne said her three children left her ten years ago when her husband died. She said since then, none of them has ever sent her money or even called to ask about her welfare.
“Since I fell ill, none of the children has visited me. I am hoping that during the upcoming funeral they will come and help me. They left when my husband died and it has been ten years now. I don’t have any misunderstanding with them so I don’t know what else is holding them from helping me.” She told crimecheckghana.
The poor old woman said she lives on the benevolence of neighbors and that the day she does not get gifts she starves.
“Neighbors sometimes give me rice to cook and others gift me money. When I don’t get gifts I sleep because there is nothing I can do in my sick condition. One of my granddaughters has been cooking for me but I live alone in this mud house.” She said.
Maame Benne was left in utterly shock after Crime Check Foundation, CCF gave her an amount of Two Hundred Ghana Cedis through one of its UK based donors, Zoro King.
“Thank you and God bless you. Where from you? I have not seen this before.” She said with surprise.
CCF’s new series, Village Charity is used to seek support for struggling individuals in villages. The Foundation is appealing to the public to support the series so that it can reach-out to many villages across the country.
