Rumour mongers have been speculating why Christian Atsu together with some Black Stars players did not make the list for the 2022 World Cup
Word on the street has it that, the forwarder had exited the National Team.
In an exclusive interview with crimecheckghana.org, Atsu debunked claims that he has retired from honoring national assignments.
“Where did I say I have stopped playing for the Black Stars?” he asked.
But in the interview, though he did not give the specific reason why refused call-up, he pointed out why he refrained from replying to the false allegations.
“If I intended to reply, it would have bolstered them to continue making their allegations. This would have made issues worse,” he explained.
According to the Hatayspor player, he was content with the fact that the national team’s coach then, C. K Akonnor knew the reasons he declined to participate in the tournament.
He said it was therefore not necessary to respond to false claims by those who do not understand his position.
“The coach approached me personally that I should join the team but I explained to him the difficult situations that would not permit me to play at the World Cup.
He understood my situation and I was satisfied with it. Sometimes people speak with emotions so when you try to reply to them, the issue escalates,” he added.
Christian Atsu had a difficult time with Newcastle, his former club with playing time.
After exiting the team, it took him a while to get a new deal with his current club, Turkey-based, Hatayspor in 2022.
He has played a total of three games for the team.
Trapped wreckage
The unfortunate incident that caught the player under rubble happened a day after his third game during which he scored a goal.
