53-year-old widow, Vida Boamah from Bosore, a village in the Ashanti Region of Ghana could only look on helplessly as her six children starve because of financial constraints.
When crimecheckghana visited Boamah she told the team that two of her children had gone to sell cassava for a neighbour to be able to buy food and other two have gone to the farm because she is unable to fend for them.
Her plight
She said her plight worsened after the demise of her husband who died after a short illness.
“My husband died four years ago leaving behind our six children who have become a burden for me. Their welfare is of concern to me but I can’t do anything about it because of financial difficulties,” she said.
She said her children are reluctant to go to school because of the harsh conditions they are experiencing. In a dilapidated mud house in which she lives with her children, she says she barely have a good sleep as they are robbed of comfort because the room leaks heavily anytime it rains.
“The children refuse to go to school and the day they go, they sleep in the classroom whiles lessons are on-going. Their headteacher has been complaining bitterly about their attitude but there is nothing I can do,” she cried.
Support
Boamah said her in-laws do not care about the children as none of them visits them to find out how they are faring.
Poor Boamah pleaded with the public for support. “I am begging you to come to my aid because I am really struggling. I need your support to overcome these difficulties.”
