Memuna Malik has undergone eleven surgeries already but her face is yet to be fully restored after she was bathed with an acidic substance in 2021.
The 31-year-old woman says she is not giving up despite the risk involved in losing her life and the huge costs of the treatment.
“The doctors told me surviving the series of surgeries is 50/50. I have paid Ghc 10,000 to Ghc 30,000 for surgery,” she told crimecheckghana.org.
Her face and other parts of her body were severely scarred in the attack when she had traveled to Saudi Arabia seeking greener pastures.
She returned home hopeless with no help in view to help her restore her once beautiful face.
Memuna luckily met Crime Check Foundation (CCF) and her story changed from hopelessness to a deepened faith in God.
CCF, with support from its donors, raised Fifty-Two Thousand Ghana cedis for Memuna to undergo her first plastic surgery at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
Since then, the Foundation has supported the series of surgeries the young lady has undergone and is yet to undergo.
Memuna says she can now see clearly and her flattened nose has been lifted, though, at a point, the grafting process failed.
“During one of the sessions, doctors found it difficult to find skin on other parts of my body to do the grafting. As I speak, skin from my thighs and hands have been taken to help lift my nose. I have always been praying for successful surgeries to show God’s glory,” she said
After the eleven surgeries, Memuna says she could now walk confidently without veiling her face from the public.
“This is the first time I have been able to boldly walk without a face mask or glasses to conceal my face and prevent mockery,” she smiled.
She says she regrets traveling to the Gulf State where she faced the ordeal.
“I would not have been in this state if I stayed in Ghana a managed my little salon. I am now into importation and sale of clothes and the business is good for me,” she said.
Memuna Malik encouraged the youth to stay behind and work as there are many business avenues and opportunities in Ghana to make them comfortable.
Her testimony continues.
