Meena Breast Cancer Foundation (MBCF) has been praised for its efforts in fighting breast cancer.
“Meena Breast Cancer Foundation’s decision to do periodic counseling is very laudable and must be applauded. It will help patients ask pressing questions they need answers to, to clear their doubts,” a Senior Clinical Psychologist at the Department of Surgery, Breast Cancer Unit at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Rita Appiah-Danquah said.
Mrs. Appiah-Danquah said this during an MBCF-organized counseling programme at its offices in Accra.
According to the Psychologist, periodic counseling sessions help guide the patients to journey through their treatments without faltering on what could thwart the improvement of their conditions.
“It helps them to do the right things while undergoing treatments for progress. It keeps them mentally fit,” she stated.
She stated that counseling is also important to keep patients motivated and encouraged them not to give up on their treatments while lifting their hopes of surviving the disease.
The Executive Director of MBCF, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng indicated the organization hopes to execute further initiatives to fight the disease but it is financially constrained.
“Most of the programmes we undertake are funded from my own pockets. We only get little support to pay for the treatment of the patients we take care of. We will appeal to the public to help us save these women,” he pleaded.
