The Management of Crime Check Foundation (CCF), a Prison NGO, with support from some good Samaritans, have rented a flat for Ama Nima, the pregnant woman released from Kumasi Central Prison, three weeks ago.
Madam Ama, who is heavily pregnant, was convicted to a fine of GH¢1,200.00, or in default serve a five-year jail term for biting the hand of a family member during a fight.
She could not pay the fine so was jailed five years, but the NGO through some benevolent individuals facilitated the release of Ama.
Mr Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, the Executive Director, CCF told the GNA that after her release, he asked her what, she wanted to do for a living and Ama said, she needs only GH¢500 to start a business.
He said management of CCF had other plans for her, “we surprised her by moving her and the children into a plush accommodation and paid a rent advance of four years.”
Mr Kwarteng, who is also the Ambassador Extraordinaire of Prisons, said they also provided Ama with a big provision shop and extra cash of GH¢7,000.
“It was tears, tears and tears of joy when we handed over the shop to Ama, she could not believe, her eyes,” he added.
He expressed gratitude to all those, who helped change the circumstances of poor Ama Anima.
According to Mr Kwarteng, the NGO intends to seek the release of more inmates, whose cases appear to have a semblance of miscarriage of justice.
His Foundation, had before Ama Nima’s discharge, secured the release of an eight-month old pregnant woman, Akosua Sarfowaa, through the support of the Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye.
