Personnel of Abor Police Command, on Sunday dawn, gunned down three suspected armed robbers, at Tsive- Kpotame, near Kpadzakope, a suburb of Abor, in the Volta Region.
A source close to the Abor police said the personnel received information that seven suspected armed robbers had besieged the area in a bid to attack residents of Tsive- Kpotame.
The source said the police laid an ambush in the area, where the suspects were in the process of invading a self-contained apartment.
The source said the suspected robbers, sensing danger, opened fire on the police, but they (robbers) were overpowered by the police, leading to the killing of three robbers.
A policeman (name withheld) suffered gunshot wounds and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
The police retrieved a pump action gun, a locally manufactured pistol, and 30 rounds of AA ammunition from the suspected robbers.
Mr. Emmanuel Tsifoanya, the assembly member for Tsive- Kpotame, who confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency, appealed to the police to intensify efforts to arrest other perpetrators, who were on the run.
However, Superintendent Daniel Carlos Atongnab, the Abor District Police commander, when contacted on the incident, remained tight-lipped.
