The protest is being spearheaded by the pressure group, Arise Ghana.
Reports indicate police have fired tear gas to disperse the protestors in the ongoing demonstration on Tuesday ( 28 June).
It is yet unclear what might have triggered the action of the police which turned the demonstration chaotic.
“What a shame, we were there to protect you and ensure your safety, but you throw stones at us, injure and hurt us. This behaviour is unacceptable and must be condemned,” police posted on Facebook.
Meanwhile, the police have picked up some of the demonstrators as a result of the development.
Motivation for demonstration
Organizers of the Arise Ghana demonstration have said that the motivation for their action are among others, the persistent and astronomical hikes in fuel prices.
The organizers maintain the rising level of fuel prices has imposed excruciating economic hardships on Ghanaians.
They also say they are protesting against the E-Levy on the already-burdened Ghanaian people by government, to demand full scale and bi-partisan parliamentary probe into COVID-19 expenditures.
Currently, the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange road has been closed, with no movement from either vehicle or persons.
It can be confirmed that there is an uneasy calm at the protest grounds as the demonstrators seem to be facing off with the Police officers.
Police have picked up two persons following the incident.
