Members of the Grace Congregation of the Presbyterian Church at New Aplaku in the Weija-Gbawe Municipality have undergone breast screening.
Meena Breast Cancer Foundation (MBCF) organized the screening exercise at the church premises while service was ongoing.
Seventy-three women were recorded as having undergone the screening exercise.
Though no breast cancer lumps were recorded, the lead MBCF nurse, Dorothy Denkyi of the Tema General Hospital, urged leaders of the church to arrange Mammogram care for the women who were forty years and above.
This according to her is to ensure that any hidden lump could be detected.
“I want to suggest to the church to organize its women to undergo Mammogram sessions intermittently to help them identify hidden lumps,” she said.
Such an initiative was unusual to the congregants who expressed gratitude to Meena Breast Cancer Foundation.
Schools, communities, corporate institutions, and religious organizations have benefitted from MBCF’s initiative.
Some seventeen women were identified with lumps in their breasts during a screening exercise at the Accra Digital Centre undertaken by MBCF a week earlier.
Meena Breast Cancer Foundation was established a year ago to educate the public on the dangers of breast cancer and support patients to get proper medical care. MBCF aims to champion the fight against the disease throughout the year to help reduce breast cancer-related deaths instead of limiting its advocacy and support to October.
