Persons with disability in the Tema Metropolis in the Greater Accra Region have been screened for breast cancer.
The screening exercise was organized and undertaken by Meena Breast Cancer Foundation (MBCF) as it wages all year round war against the deadly disease.
The beneficiaries of the program are members of the Ghana Society for the Physically Challenged Disabled (GSPD).
They were educated on the disease prior to the screening during which one person was found to have a suspected breast cancer lump.
The lead medical team nurse, Dorothy Denkyi, a Midwife at the Tema General Hospital entreated the beneficiaries to pay attention to strange changes in their bodies. She cautioned that the disease could take them by surprise if they ignore signs indicating it is the reason many women get to know of it late.
“At least five women die of breast cancer daily at the Korle-Bu Teaching”, madam Denkyi noted.
“When you are able to note the signs of the disease you will be able to fight it at an early stage. You do not have to be unconcerned, “ she added.
Meena Breast Cancer Foundation (MBCF) is going around the country to fight the disease.
MBCF is an initiative birthed on the vision of late Mrs. Amina Oppong Kwarteng who died of breast cancer.
She was the spouse of the Executive Director of Crime Check Foundation (CCF) and MBCF.
It also targets young people to inculcate in them, the habit of constant screening and early treatment.
