Ex-Black Stars player, John Paintsil has described as unfortunate the circulation of a story involving Isaac Odoom, a 64-year-old man who was jailed for breaking into his private residence at Besease in the Central Region.
He has therefore released a statement to distance himself.
It would be recalled that on 4th May 2023, Crime Check Foundation (CCF) posted on its online TV channel, Crime Check TV GH, its interview with Odoom.
This was after the Foundation paid his fine for his release with the help of a Sweden-based Ghanaian footballer, Emmanuel Boateng.
Mr. Odoom, in the interview, denied stealing the mattress he was jailed for despite several rebukes by the Executive Director of Crime
Check Foundation, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng to admit the crime.
The video, which has since gone viral and re-posted by various media outlets seems not to sit well with Paintsil.
In a statement from the player’s camp, he has sought to make clarification regarding the video, which has sparked varied commentary from the public.
According to the statement addressed to his friends and loved ones, John Paintsil made efforts to reclaim the perceived damage the video has caused his reputation.
“I am deeply saddened by these false accusations and the impact they can have on my reputation. What makes the situation even more unfortunate is that Mr. Ibrahim Kwarteng (the founder of Crime Check Foundation) who brought attention to this incident did not reach out to listen to my side of the story before publishing it online.
“It is disheartening that the truth was not sought before spreading misinformation,” the statement denoted.
The former defender distanced himself from Mr. Odoom’s imprisonment stating that he did not play any role in leading to the conviction of the poor 64-year-old man.
“I want to assure you all that I had no role in the arrest or imprisonment of this individual (Isaac Odoom). I believe in the importance of due process and respecting the legal system. I value honesty and integrity, and I want to thank all of you who have reached out with messages of support during this challenging time,” he concluded.
The former Black Stars player called for further support for clarifications on the issue.
