David Ato Kwamena Dadson, a 32-year-old Graphic Designer would have served a full nine-month jail term at the Winneba Local Prison but for Crime Check Foundation’s (CCF) intervention.
The young man confessed to stealing a Television set, which he said belonged to his father’s tenant.
“I am a good boy but the day I stole the TV I had taken a drink made of wee,” he told crimecheckghana.org during a visit to the prison.
The Ajumako District Magistrate Court charged Kwamnea Dadson with unlawful entry and fined him One Thousand Four Hundred and Fifty Ghana cedis after he pleaded guilty.
He was subsequently sentenced to nine months imprisonment after he defaulted in settling the court fine.
After considering his offence, which is regarded as petty, Crime Check Foundation with support from a Germany-based philanthropic group, Zion Prayer Network International paid the fine imposed on Dadson.
Dadson now walks a free man escaping the harsh conditions in prison.
The move is aimed at decongestion the prisons.
