A 37-year-old driver, Akuffo Jonas has been jailed over an abortive ‘Work and Pay’ agreement.
Jonas was a member of his boss’s church.
According to him, they entered into a work and pay agreement over the Thirty-One Thousand Ghana cedis Toyota Matiz vehicle.
“In the verbal agreement, I was to make Ghc 400 sales every week and my boss promised to buy a new engine for me if the old one is damaged,” he said.
Jonas said after one and half years of paying almost half the amount for the vehicle, the car owner seized the vehicle from him after the engine got damaged.
He said the boss refused to honor his promise of replacing the damaged engine but instead left him in a disadvantaged position to cheat him.
The car owner’s action did not sit well with Jonas as he confronted the pastor of his church.
“I went straight to the church and insulted him. For the one and half year I have worked I could not save anything. I have a wife with two children. I was pained,” he confided in crimecheckghana.org.
For fear of losing the vehicle and his daily bread, Jonas admitted hid the vehicle from the reach of its owner. The car owner then reported him to the police after suspecting that his employee was plotting to flee with the vehicle.
Jonas was arrested by police in Nkwakaw and arraigned before court.
He was jailed for two years without a fine for attempting to steal the vehicle.
