Widow, Obaa Yaa has received GHc 4,000 from donors to start a business to enable her cater for her children after Crime Check Foundation appealed to Ghanaians for their support after hearing Obaa Yaa’s sad story.
“I have never held such an amount before and I thank God for bringing you (donors) into my life to help my children and I,” she said
“I am very grateful to all donors and I promise to work hard with the money I have received to cater for my children. God bless you,” she assured after receiving the money.
Presenting the money to Obaa Yaa on behalf of the team members and donors, founder of the crime check foundation, Mr. Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng advised Obaa Yaa to honour her promise to use the money effectively in whatever business she does.
For Obaa Yaa, all she has experienced after the death of her husband is pure poverty. With four children to feed, life has been nothing but hell for this poor widow who lost her husband two years ago after he suffered a short ailment.
Narrating her ordeal to crimecheckghana on how she had to sell coconut to make ends meet, she revealed she had to sleep at the coconut wholesale point just to get coconut to sell the next day.
“My friend who introduced me to this job explained to me it was very stressful and exhaustive and that was why she had to quit. Honestly speaking what she told me was the truth but I had to endure for the sake of my four children,” she said amid tears.
“I make 35 cedis a day after selling 100 pieces of coconut, pay GHc 10 as garbage money, send GHc 20 to my children and survive on the remaining GHc5. So I spend GHc 4 on kenkey for breakfast and Supper and use the GHc 1 left to go and pay bathing fee at a public bath house,” she told crimecheckghana during a first encounter.
