It was all tears of joy as Crime Check Foundation CCF pays a visit to 110-year-old ex-convict Akollabilla at Amomaso in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
Akollabilla was arrested at the age of ninety-two and charged with possession of narcotic drug. “In 2012, I was a worker on a cocoa farm but was sacked because I could not work harder at my age. Someone introduced me to selling weed and I was arrested on my first attempt at doing the weed business”. He told crimecheckghana.
According to him, he was arraigned before court and sentenced to a ten-year jail term at the Kumasi Central Prison. “I am going through difficulties in the prison cell because I am weak and suffering from asthma. I do not get any support from anyone”.
About two years, CCF through its donors visited Akollabilla at the Kumasi Central Prison and took him to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for proper medical care. The Foundation further donated items such as walking aid, milo, milk, drinks, biscuits, toiletries and clothes to help in his upkeep at the prison. The Foundation additionally gave him One thousand Ghana cedis.
After CCF aired his story, he was granted presidential pardon and released from prison.
Two years later, CCF has paid a visit to Akolabilla at Amomaso in the Ashanti Region of Ghana and presented him items including oats, rice, milk, sardine, tin tomatoes, oil and toiletries.
The feeble looking old man could not hold his tears as he received the items. “I never had hopes of getting help from anyone. I thank CCF and its donors for these items. God bless them”.
He made an appeal to the public to come to his aid as his health is deteriorating.
The CCF Charity Project aims at seeking support for widows, orphans, the poor and the vulnerable in society who find it difficult to make ends meet.
