Crime Check Foundation (CCF) has congratulated the newly appointed Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie.
CCF, led by the Ambassador Extraordinaire of Prisons, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng described DGP Baffoe-Bonnie’s appointment as well deserved considering her wealth of experience and expertise in corrections and security.
He commended President John Dramani Mahama for the exemplary choice.
Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng said the Foundation was optimistic that Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie’s leadership would steer a new era of transformation, focusing on rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society.
“As a staunch advocate for prison reform, we forward to collaborating with her (DGP Patience Baffoe-Bonnie) to promote humane prison conditions, support rehabilitation programmes and advocate for restorative justice,” he said.
Formerly the Deputy Director-General of Prisons (DDGP) In-Charge-of Finance and Administration, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq) takes over from Mr. Isaac Kofi Egyir.
She becomes the second woman to head the Ghana Prisons Service.
Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie is a seasoned corrections and security expert with over 37 years of dedicated service to the Ghana Prisons Service.
Joining the Prisons Service as a recruit in 1987 with an Advanced Level Certificate, Patience rose through the Junior officer ranks till 1995. After her first Degree from the University of Ghana, Legon, in 1993, she joined the Senior Officer Corps after successfully completing the Cadet Course in 1994. She successfully rose through the ranks through hard work and dedication to service.
She has held various substantive leadership positions as well as acting command positions, including Classroom Instructor, Adjutant, Course Commander, Chief Legal Officer, and becoming an Officer-In-Charge.
She has also held various positions at the Directorate including Director of Prisons Health, Technical & Services, Director of Services; Director of Operations; and Deputy Director-General (Finance and Administration).
She is known for effectively handling complex issues across different sectors, improving the welfare of staff, addressing legal and administrative matters, developing policies, restoring and harmonizing allowances, and leading reforms to benefit staff, inmates, and stakeholders.
