The Executive Director of Crime Check Foundation (CCF) has appealed to the public and donors to further support the expansion of Christian Atsu’s Educational Centre.
He said the capacity of the centre would need to be increased, as the legacy Atsu has left would attract more children to the facility. Mr Kwarteng remarked during the commissioning of Christian Atsu Educational Centre at Senya Beraku in the Central Region.
“This monumental edifice is going to go a long to support many people. We pray and hope that Arms Around the Child will continue to raise more funds to expand this building because I see in the coming years it may not be enough to contain the many people who would want to come here because of the legacy of Christian Atsu,” he told crimecheckghana.org.
The school was started by the player with support from Arms Around the Child until his demise.
It was built for the orphans of Becky’s Foundation located at Senya Beraku. The Educational centre which has a Pre-school, Lower Primary, Upper Primary and Junior High School departments will serve the less privileged in Senya-Beraku and its environs.
According to Mr. Kwarteng the expansion of the building will help keep the late Black Star player’s dream alive and his benevolence in the minds of people.
“Christian Atsu paid the fines of petty offenders and helped to re-integrate ex-convicts into society by supporting them with businesses. He also paid hospital bills for many patients who were struggling at the hospital. Atsu had a difficult beginning and for him to have done this with Arms Around the Child should tell you the sort of person he was. We want to use this opportunity to encourage donors to contribute more to the course of Arms Around the Child so that they can do more,” he said.
The Director of Arms Around the Child, Ellie Milner underscored the importance of the Christian Atsu Educational Centre.
“The journey is just beginning, upholding Christian Atsu’s dreams of building a school and his belief in education for all, highlighting the importance of education in reducing poverty and with hopes of raising future leaders. Welcoming the first children from Becky’s Foundation into the school is a giant step towards a bright future,” she indicated.
Christian Atsu was the ambassador for Arms Around The Child Foundation before his death.
