Ama Hagar, a farmer from Aboabo in the Central region of Ghana is in grief as efforts to get Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis (the equivalent of one thousand eight hundred US Dollars) to pay for a correctional surgery of her two year old granddaughter, Nyameakwan Antwi has proved futile.
Little Nyameakwan is said to have been going through unbearable pains as she has to pass excreta (faeces) through the side of her body. Ama Hagar says doctors created the opening on her granddaughter to relieve her of the excruciating pains caused by her inability to pass stools through her anus. “Doctors created an opening on Nyameakwan to enable her pass excreta because her anus is sealed. She cries a lot because she cannot withstand the pains”. She told crimecheckghana.
Hagar who is in her early fifties said life has been very tough as they have exhausted all their savings on Nyameakwan’s medications. “We are farmers and the little money we were able to raise has all been used to pay for some of the hospital bills but the amount for the surgery is too huge for us to afford. Doctors say she has to undergo two sessions of surgery to survive”. The teary grandma said.
Aunty Ama told crimecheckghana that the little girl’s mother died from malaria at the Tema General Hospital and her father, who is a tricycle rider, makes peanuts out of his hard work but has to raise two hundred and fifty Ghana Cedis as weekly sales for his master. The devastated young man said he is heartbroken by the situation. “I ride somebody’s tricycle and the meager amount I make will not suffice for the surgery. I cannot help it since Nyameakwan is now my only happiness”. He said.
CCF through its Health Check Series seeks support from the general public for the needy to get medical attention.

The Foundation is therefore appealing to the public to come to the aid of little Nyameakwan to undergo the two surgeries at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to save her life.
In the interim, Crime Check Foundation, through one of its donors, Awuah Benjamin, gifted Ama Hagar an amount of Three Hundred Ghana Cedis for her upkeep and pre-medications as it counts on the benevolence of donors.
With tears, the old woman asked God’s blessings for Mr. Awuah. “May God bless and prosper everything you do. May you never lack”. She prayed.
