Human Rights advocacy group, Amnesty International Ghana on Friday, June 28th held its 2019 Annual General Assembly Meeting in Keta.
The meeting which was attended by delegates across the country sought to solicit views and ideas from its members on how to execute the group’s theme for the year.
This year’s General Meeting was themed “Improving Prison Conditions in Ghana – A Necessary step towards the Protection of rights of prison inmates”
Speaking on the sidelines with crimecheckghana.org Dr. Vincent Adzahlie-Mensah, an international board member of Amnesty International Ghana said the theme for the meeting was borne out of a report Amnesty International wrote after it had paid a visit to some prisons in the country.
According to him, the group has put in place strategies to pressure the government and all other stakeholders to cause some changes in the conditions of prison inmates.
“This is just like a launch of our activities for the next half of the year, we are going to mount pressure on the government and other stakeholders to reform the inhumane conditions of prisoners “he said.
Adzahile-Mensah said, the group is optimistic that government will pay heed to their calls and reform the nature and structure of the criminal justice chain.
The Annual Assembly meeting is held every year by the group to strategize and plan on how to execute its advocacy.
