The driver, Albert Yeboah was jailed by an Accra Court when he was charged on six counts of road traffic offences.
According to Yeboah, he was conveying two hundred and eighty boxes of tiles loaded on a KIA MIGHTY vehicle.
He was going to deliver the loads at Aburi and whiles descending the mounting, he failed his brakes.
In his attempt to stop the car, it resulted in a fatal accident claiming the lives of three individuals.
“I heard a noise in the gearbox and I could not control the movement of the vehicle. Before I could stop the car some of the passengers jumped out of the moving vehicle out of fright,” he said.
Yeboah said when he finally managed to stop the vehicle, the load pour on those who jumped out.
“One of them fell in a gutter and another on the road. If the vehicle had not stopped it would have smashed them to death,” he recounted.
The inmate said he was arrested and arraigned before court where he was charged with causing harm to other road users, and careless driving among other four charges including overloading.
He pleaded guilty and was jailed accordingly.

The Executive Director of Crime Check Foundation (CCF), Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng urged drivers and other road users to learn traffic regulations and respect them to avoid road fatalities. “Many drivers are ignorant of traffic regulations so they ignore many of the regulations that are meant to protect them. You must learn the regulations to ensure safe driving on the road,” he admonished.
