The Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Prisons Service has expressed gratitude to a United Nations Peace Ambassador, Dr. Martin Kofi Danso for his contribution to saving petty offenders in Ghana.
DSP Richard Bukari was full of appreciation after Dr. Danso paid the fines of six inmates of the Kumasi Central Prison.
The beneficiary inmates were petty offenders who committed various crimes that would only need a caution or a community sentence.
Dr. Danso’s attention was drawn to the infraction of the law through Crime Check Foundation’s (CCF) crime prevention televised programme persuading him to support it to save the offenders from the cracks of the law.
“The move by Dr. Danso will give relief to other inmates. It will create space even if it is one person who has been released. It will also reduce the burden on the prison service and government to provide feeding for them,” DSP Bukari praised the UN Ambassador’s move.
Dr. Kofi Danso supported the inmates through his contribution to ‘Time With the Prisoner’, a televised crime prevention programnme of CCF.
The Eminent Peace Ambassador steps in the absence of late Black Stars player, Christian Atsu to support petty offenders.
