Ghanaian women’s rights advocate, journalist, and event organizer Afua Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum has concluded her impressive singing marathon Guinness World Record attempt, lasting an astounding 126 hours and 52 minutes.
The decision to end the effort was made based on advice from her team, led by Dr. Grace Buckman, who cited fatigue as the reason.
While awaiting verification from Guinness World Record judges, Asantewaa’s attempt surpassed the existing record for the longest sing-a-thon, set by India’s Sunil Waghmare in 2012.
The marathon commenced on 24th December, midnight, and concluded on the morning of December 29, 2023.
Addressing her supporters after receiving medical attention behind a screen onstage, Asantewaa expressed losing track of time during the five-day effort.
She hoped her achievement would inspire women and youth across the country.
Grateful for the support received from musicians, politicians, and security officials at the Akwaaba Village, Asantewaa is scheduled to host an all-white Thanksgiving event at 6 pm tonight at the same venue.
